Welcome to the Successful Retirement Guide!

    The purpose of the Successful Retirement Guide is to help you (or your parent, spouse, friend,
    client or coworker) make the most of  retirement by becoming and remaining intellectually,
    socially and physically engaged with life.

    This site is for folks who are already retired, those looking forward to the event, those terrified of the
    thought, everyone in between and all those who care about them.

    Here you will find information, ideas, suggestions and inspiration to make sure you have lots of
    opportunities to explore ways to make your retirement a successful one.

    Your host is R. Kevin Price, the author of the new book: The Successful Retirement Guide  
    published in  2009 by Rainbow Books, Inc.  Kevin retired from corporate life at age 55 and set out to
    discover what it means to be successfully retired.  The result is his book: The Successful
    Retirement Guide.

    Average life expectancy has increased a lot in the last century. For people age 65, it now averages
    an additional 17+ years for men and 20+years for women.  If you want to check out how long you
    might live there are several interactive online tools you can use. It can be an eye-opening experience.
    The author, for instance, (a 61 year old male in reasonable health), is projected to live until 92.  
    Assuming your life expectancy is not dissimilar to mine, what are we going to do with all this time?

    Are we going to "take it easy"?  Keep busy?  Play more golf or tennis?  Visit the grandkids?  Go on a
    cruise?  These are all fine activities but there is so much more that is available to us.  Rather than
    letting retirement be a time of winding down, why not let it be a time of growth, accomplishment,
    giving back and personal fulfillment while maintaining a healthy mind, body and attitude.

    How do we do that?  By staying intellectually, physically and socially engaged in life.  Researchers
    into successful aging and retirement tell us that:

  • we need to exercise our brains in new and challenging ways to maintain mental well-being;

  • to maintain physical well-being we need to exercise and live a healthy life style;

  • we need to remain socially engaged or meaningfully connected with others.
